The Egyptian rowing team achieved a historic milestone by winning a medal at the Baltic International Coastal Rowing Championship, held in Lithuania on August 23 and 24. The event featured fierce competition, with 13 boats from 6 countries taking part in the mixed double sculls race.
The Egyptian boat, featuring the duo Ahmed El-Ateeq and Mariam Hamam, secured the bronze medal in the mixed double event. Competitors in the race included:
1 boat from Switzerland
1 boat from Estonia
1 boat from Finland
3 boats from Latvia
5 boats from Lithuania
2 boats from Egypt
Major General Sherif El-Qammati, President of the Egyptian Rowing Federation, affirmed that this achievement reflects how Egypt’s participation in coastal rowing is consistently crowned with medals. He described it as a significant step towards cementing Egypt’s global presence in this sport.
He extended his gratitude to the Egyptian delegation in Lithuania for their honorable performance, stressing that all athletes gave their utmost and presented themselves in the best way despite the intense competition. He added that this milestone marks the beginning of the right path towards achieving the federation’s long-term plans.
The Federation President also highlighted that the national team includes many promising talents expected to reach the podium in future championships, supported by an ambitious plan to prepare all athletes both technically and physically for upcoming challenges.
El-Qammati concluded his remarks by praising the efforts of Captain Mohamed Salama, Vice President of the Federation and Head of the Coastal Rowing Committee, who is working tirelessly to raise the athletes’ technical level with the full support of the federation to achieve its vision for coastal rowing.
